Free trade agreements

Government procurement typically represents 14-20 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in most developed countries. It's important that New Zealand businesses can access and compete on an even footing in global government procurement markets.

Free trade agreements between New Zealand and other countries make it easier for businesses to sell to foreign governments. We agree the contract opportunities that will be available to New Zealand suppliers and the basic procurement procedures that will be used.

New Zealand is involved in a number of current agreements, which contain provisions on government procurement.

Agreements currently in force

  • Australia - New Zealand Closer Economic Relations Trade Agreement (ANZCERTA)
  • Australia and New Zealand Government Procurement Agreement (ANZGPA)
  • World Trade Organisation Agreement on Government Procurement (GPA)
  • Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP)
  • Korea - New Zealand Free Trade Agreement
  • Agreement between New Zealand and the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu on Economic Cooperation (ANZTEC)
  • New Zealand – Singapore Closer Economic Partnership
  • Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership (P4)
