Reducing emissions with print technology and associated services
Providers are committed to supplying products and services with minimal environmental impact.
Each provider has committed to working towards supplying products and services with minimal environmental impact throughout their lifecycle by:
- having print devices being certified to meet New Zealand Energy Star® standard (or equivalent standard)
- achieving and maintaining EPEAT and Environmental Management System (EMS) certification (such as ISO 14001, Eco-Management and Audit Scheme or Environmental Choice New Zealand programme)
- implementing a product stewardship programme* to enable devices, packaging and consumables to be suitably recovered, repurposed, refurbished or responsibly recycled.
* Product stewardship includes systems and processes to manage the end-of-life of devices and consumables, including those not owned by the provider, for example, those sold to an agency or school.
Emissions objectives
Waste management and recycling
Providers will increase the proportion of recycled materials used in manufacturing their devices, peripherals, consumables and packaging.
Providers will offer and promote product stewardship programmes to agencies to ensure devices, peripherals, consumables and packaging are suitably recovered, repurposed, refurbished or recycled.
Waste management – end of life
Providers will decrease the proportion of devices, peripherals, consumables and packaging that cannot be recycled and is sent to landfill.
Providers will increase the proportion of devices, peripherals, consumables and packaging that:
- is collected/recovered and recycled in New Zealand and
- has or had parts repurposed.
Emissions and waste reduction
Providers will work to reduce carbon emissions and waste generated. This may include repairing rather than replacing products, using remote service/trouble shooting tools, consolidated service/delivery routes and using electric service fleets where practicable.
