One of the cool projects that I got to work on was procuring grounds management staff here at Government House. So some of the things that we needed to think about was bringing a 21st century approach to gardening, but also honouring the treaty of Waitangi, and the traditions of government house. There is a bunch of native flora and the reason for that is when VIPs come we want them to be immersed in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Tēnā kotou katoa, kō Manaaki tōku nei ingoa, he uri tēnei nō Ngāpuhi and I’m a Procurement Graduate.

Hi I'm Belinda Bui and I'm a procurement graduate. I'm currently at the Ministry for Primary Industries.

Kia ora, I'm Jacinta Taliauli and I'm in my final rotation at the Ministry of Business Innovation and employment.

Procurement work is more than just buying stuff.

Buying stuff is just single event. Procurement is planning, sourcing and managing of goods and services over time.

It's interesting work that can take you into a huge variety of industries.

And in government procurement can have a massive impact on the growth and success of New Zealand.

With an annual spend of 41 billion dollars, we can have a collective approach to achieve amazing social and economic outcomes.

Like better conditions for workers, better access to business or ways to reduce emissions.

In public service we have some big goals and procurement teams are the people who plan, source and buy the goods and services for required to achieve those goals.

Government procurement is a big responsibility to spend tax payers’ money efficiently and that makes it a rewarding career.

The variety of work is also good for the soul as we look towards a sustainable economy which lifts the living standards for all of New Zealand.

The Procurement Graduate Programme is an exciting two year programme designed to recruit, and develop top quality procurement professionals.

You’ll work on some exciting high value projects across the public sector…
