Data and reporting

Good data helps us make better decisions, measure performance and find ways to improve. Mandated agencies provide data through regular reporting and dashboards are published here.

Data dashboards

These interactive dashboards provide insights into procurement practice and spending patterns. The dashboards show:

  • Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS) data
  • collaborative contracts data (for government agency use only).

Data is available across a number of years. The datasets do not reveal personal information or contract details.

This data can support decision-making, with a focus on improving procurement performance and successful outcomes.

Data is a key area of focus for New Zealand Government Procurement, and we’ll update these dashboards monthly so that they continue to improve over time.

GETS data

This dashboard shows how tenders for products and services compare with those of other agencies. You can find out, for example, about responses to tenders and time taken to award.

The data for this report is based on information agencies supply provide via GETS.

Information might be missing when a tender is  registered or completed. Where possible, we’ve made an assumption about any missing information or have excluded it.

Information presented in this tool should not be used to consolidate financial data.

Collaborative contracts data

The collaborative contracts dashboard is accessible only to agencies logged into the procurement website.

It illustrates the combined spend data of agencies required to apply the Government Procurement Rules. The dashboard shows their spend on products and services bought through All-of-Government (AoG) and Common capability contracts (collectively called collaborative contracts). This data comes from reports submitted quarterly by collaborative contract suppliers.

Data from Syndicated contracts, ICT Common Capability contracts, and DIA agreements is not included.

The dashboard can help mandated agencies better understand their procurement activities, and the benefits of using collaborative contracts. Data comes from mandated agencies, but it can be useful for others to see how these agencies benefit from using AoG contracts. Other organisations may include New Zealand schools, councils, and government agencies who are encouraged – but not required – to follow the Government Procurement Rules.

This collaborative contracts dashboard is designed to improve transparency in government spending and showcase the savings gained through collaborative contracts. Agencies can compare their spend data with agencies of similar size and function, and use this knowledge to discuss and improve their spending practices. This transparency fosters accountability, encourages responsible spending, and helps agencies find ways to achieve better outcomes.

Collaborative procurement data on the dashboard is collected and updated quarterly.

The dashboard is for government agency use only and should not be shared externally.

Disclaimer

These reports were prepared by using Microsoft Power BI to analyse and interpret the data. Data was provided by government agencies via GETS, or reported to us by collaborative contract panel suppliers. The reports provide an overview based on visual analysis and should not be interpreted as a definitive or exhaustive analysis.

The reports assume that the provided data in GETS and from collaborative contract suppliers is complete and accurate. However, there may be limitations or factors that weren’t considered during the analysis that could have influenced the results. These limitations may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Data quality: The reliability of data used in the report may not have been consistently high, which may introduce bias or inaccuracies.
  2. Data selection: The selection of specific data or variables for analysis may have introduced a selection bias that could impact the extent to which these findings can be generalised.
  3. Visualisation and presentation: The visual representations used in the report may have been chosen for convenience or clarity, but they may not always accurately represent the complex nature of the data.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment accepts no liability for the accuracy, completeness or content of material in this report.

New Zealand Government Procurement insights

Every year, we share data-based insights on the state of government procurement in New Zealand. These high-level numbers show key statistics like New Zealand businesses’ access to government procurement, reduction in emissions, and total cost savings from using All-of-Government contracts.

Reporting

Reporting is important because it informs policy and improves the visibility of procurement data. Reporting helps to identify public value. It also helps all government agencies track how they’re doing and measure improvement over time.
