Reducing emissions from electricity
The electricity used in buildings by agencies and schools plays a major part if New Zealand is to reach its climate change goals, including Net Zero Carbon, by 2050.
The electricity contract can be used to reduce emissions and waste, and assist the transitioning to a net zero emissions economy through the efficient use of electricity.
Suppliers are committed to working together with agencies and schools to:
- Empower agencies and schools to efficiently manage electricity consumption by easily accessing better data. This helps to improve the operational efficiency of buildings. For example, organisations may be able to reduce consumption during peak periods, which reduces reliance on electricity generated from coal and gas.
- Provide specialist services, such as internal advisory services, that can support your agency or school to better understand electricity usage and lines charges.
- Provide workshops, webinars and tutorials on energy innovations and technology solutions that lead to decarbonisation.
The electricity suppliers chosen for this panel have industry-leading environmental, social and governance (ESG) programmes. By openly reporting against ESG policies, they emphasise delivering a more sustainable energy/electricity sector in New Zealand. Most suppliers source from renewable sources and regularly partner with iwi for new renewable generation projects.
