Rules and Procure Connect update

New Zealand Government Procurement is progressing two major initiatives in 2025 that will support better procurement outcomes across government.

Following extensive consultation, the proposed 5th edition of the Government Procurement Rules is now in the final stages of approval.

“While we cannot confirm the final timeframe – or prefigure Cabinet consideration – my team is gearing up to support the procurement community as we transition from the current to the new Rules,” says Michael Alp, General Manager NZGP.

“We’re developing Day 1 guidance, webinars and other support to help government agencies understand and embed the new Rules.”

Another big project – Procure Connect, the Government’s Commercial Centre – is also in the final stages of testing and assurance activities before go-live. Procure Connect is our new eProcurement platform, designed to streamline procurement processes and improve user experience.

"We’re preparing for a soft launch, with our AoG External Legal Services (ELS) panel. We appreciate the active engagement from ELS suppliers and participating agencies as we prepare together for this big change in process,”

Once a contract is migrated to Procure Connect it will be the one source of truth. It will be where you will find everything you need to select and engage suppliers on that contract. Eventually, moving this part of everyone's day-to-day procurement will make life easier. It will deliver quick, accurate and transparent data while freeing up time for more complex procurement work.

A confirmed go-live will be announced shortly.

“These are two key programmes that have been a long time in the making. We’re excited to see them launch this year. I’m grateful to all those who have positively contributed to these initiatives, and I look forward to their upcoming release,” says Michael.
