Procurement Capability Index (PCI) reporting for 2025

The reporting due date for this year's Procurement Capability Index (PCI) is 2 March 2026.

The PCI is an annual survey designed to assess an agency’s capability across a range of areas such as governance, strategy, planning, sourcing and management.

By participating, agencies can use the results to help:

  • evaluate their current level of procurement capability maturity against their peers
  • support decision making within their agency
  • identify opportunities to strengthen their procurement practices
  • inform strategic workforce planning, and
  • celebrate performance.

The PCI results are also used to inform New Zealand Government Procurement (NZGP) of the support agencies need and report on system-wide procurement capability.

Following feedback on the 2024 reporting, we’ve refined several questions to strengthen data quality and ensure we can provide timely, actionable insights back to agencies.

Agencies required to apply the Government Rules must complete the PCI annually. However, we encourage all agencies to complete the PCI survey as it helps your agency identify capability opportunities to deliver better outcomes.
