New Zealand Government Procurement graduate programme 2027
Let’s get people into a career they can thrive in and grow their communities. This is the programme that can open up the world of procurement for people based in Aotearoa New Zealand. And procurement is the strategic engine of our government agencies.
Applications are about to open for the 2027 New Zealand Government Procurement graduate programme.
There are 10 positions available. Applications open on 17 July and close on 17 August 17, 2026.
The 10 successful graduates will start in February 2027, located in Tāmaki Makau Rau Auckland and Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington.
NZGP Procurement Workforce and Capability Manager Pamela Glass said the programme is designed to develop the future leaders of public sector procurement.
"Procurement is the strategic engine of government agencies. It goes far beyond basic buying by managing vendor relationships, mitigating market risks and working across government.
"The graduate programme empowers people to train up, develop a sense of what they want from their careers, grow their sense of public service, and begin to push the boundaries of what is possible for themselves and the procurement community."
Lower Hutt’s Matthew Robles is part of the 2026 programme and said it had been "amazing".
"I hadn’t fully appreciated just how rare and valuable the opportunity is to work across different government entities and learn from some of the leading procurement professionals in the country.
"So far, my highlight has been my placement at Pharmac.
"Some tasks I’ve undertaken include supporting the annual tender team, initiating my own procurement process in the special foods sub-category of the pharmaceutical schedule, and exploring what 'economic benefit' means from a pharmaceutical perspective under the new Government Procurement Rules."
Student Micah Carter, of Kāpiti Coast, said the programme had been an interesting and worthwhile experience.
"I’ve really enjoyed engaging with internal stakeholders to understand the broader social outcomes that can be driven through procurement.
"I would recommend this programme for anyone with an interest in the machinery of government or driving public value."
Auckland’s Brodie Drinnan was also part of the 2026 cohort.
"The programme has genuinely exceeded my expectations. I came into it excited to learn, but the level of exposure I’ve had across a wide range of projects has been really valuable.
"I’ve been trusted with a high level of responsibility, including leading and contributing to end-to-end projects, which has been incredible this early in my career.
"I’d recommend this programme to people who are curious and are keen to get hands on experience."
The programme is delivered by Augment Resources for New Zealand Government Procurement.
