New Government Procurement Rules take effect 1 December

New Government Procurement Rules come into effect on 1 December 2025. Government agencies that are required to follow the Rules are now expected to implement them.

“This 5th edition updates the current 4th edition Government Procurement Rules. It has a key focus on leveraging government spending to achieve economic outcomes. The Rules have been restructured to ensure a more streamlined, user-friendly and accessible experience.” says Michael Alp, General Manager, New Zealand Government Procurement (NZGP).

“Since the launch of the latest version of the Rules in October, my team has been working with users to help them embed new rules and policies into their procurement practice. We’ve been really encouraged by the engagement.”

We’re developing a procurement system that provides reliable data, enabling richer insights and leading to better intelligence-led decisions. The latest edition of the Rules is a valuable support for this vision.

Michael Alp  General Manager, New Zealand Government Procurement (NZGP).

“My team is here to support agency procurement through our Advisory and Business Services team, Account Managers, and support for procurement capability.” says Michael.
