New All-of-Government gas supply contract agreed with Contact Energy
New Zealand Government Procurement has signed a long-term agreement with Contact Energy to secure a reliable supply of reticulated gas.
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), through New Zealand Government Procurement (NZGP), has signed a new All-of-Government (AoG) contract with Contact Energy to supply reticulated gas to participating agencies across the North Island.
The contract provides price certainty and a secure supply of reticulated gas for delivery of essential public services such as hospitals, prisons, defence establishments, council facilities and schools.
This new contract starts on 1 October 2025 and runs until 30 September 2032, replacing the current agreement with Genesis Energy, which ends on 30 September 2025.
NZGP ran a competitive Request for Proposal process to find a supplier that could meet the ongoing needs of government agencies.
We will work closely with agencies and schools to support their transition to the new contract before its launch on 1 October.
