WAP2 is the second part of the Wellington accommodation strategy, which adopted a single process to procure office accommodation for Wellington agencies.
Following the success of WAP1, WAP2 adopted a single process to procure office accommodation in central Wellington for a further 24 agencies with leases expiring between 2017 and 2019.
The original WAP2 business case sought to further reduce the government's footprint by over ten per cent. By optimising leased office space in Wellington, agencies can continue to deliver improved public services and save taxpayer dollars. WAP2 does this by looking at co-locating agencies together, accommodating those with common functions in the same building and putting agencies into buildings near to each other where it makes sense and saves money.
The WAP2 programme was significantly affected and delayed by the November 2016 Kaikoura earthquake. In August 2017, Cabinet approved changes to WAP2 to address this impact. GPG continues to work with all affected agencies to find the most suitable longer term solutions for their office space needs.
