Update on government model template review and health and safety changes

31 May 2016

Earlier this year, we sought feedback from businesses and government on the suite of model contract and tender templates on our website. These government model templates were created to ensure consistency and raise the standard of procurement practice across government, and to make it easier to do business with government.

Good feedback received from business and government

We received good feedback from a range of businesses and government agencies, including if the templates were meeting their objectives. While the general consensus is that the templates are working well, both groups have identified areas where the templates could be improved. We have and are continuing to consult on the suggestions received.

As next steps, we will be updating the templates in response to this feedback, and include changes where appropriate to align them with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.

In order to ensure that the benefits of the templates are maintained, we intend to seek Cabinet approval to embed the tender templates as approved government model templates under Rule 59 of the Government Rules of Sourcing. The contract templates are already approved government model templates.

Interim guidance when using government model templates

We are working hard to have the templates updated and we will inform agencies when the updated templates will be available from our website.

In the meantime, we have put together some guidance to assist agencies by describing the intended health and safety changes to the templates and provide some high level considerations when using the government model templates.
